Treat in a similar fashion to Aster and Symphyotrichum, with full sun and these tough perennials will reward you with masses of lilac to white flowers in summer and into autumn. Some of these plants may be sold elsewhere, or known as, Aster.
Irrespective of the intricacies of taxonomy, all species of Aster, past and present, are of immense value to pollinating insects, especially butterflies, bumblebees, honeybees and hoverflies, particularly in the late-summer to autumn garden. Members of this genus have the bonus of being relatively slug- and mildew-resistant.
