Stoke's aster. Colourful large flowering, North American cornflower forming basal clumps of strap shaped leaves, ideal for the front of a sunny border. Best in well drained conditions.
The numerous small flowers that make up the large flowerheads of Stokesia all contain nectar and/or pollen and are outstandingly attractive to all manner of pollinating insects, especially honeybees, bumblebees, ladybirds and hoverflies. Furthermore, in autumn the seeds are devoured by sparrows and finches.
