Eriophyllum

Woolly sunflowers, from North America and Chile, with yellow daisy-like flowers. Some with hairy leaves hence the latin name, from Greek erion 'wool' and phyllon 'leaf'.

As with all 'daisy-like' flowers, the disc-flowers in the centre of the flower head produce nectar and pollen that are attractive to insects, such as bees and hoverflies. Furthermore, they form effective summer ground cover in a dry garden, retaining water and providing shelter for invertebrates.
