Bouteloua

Patch-forming perennial species in this genus provide protected environments for the overwintering of beneficial insects such as ladybirds. In their native North America, leaves are the food plants for skipper butterflies, and it is quite possible that the larvae of large, small and Essex skippers may feed on this and other grasses in gardens.
