Laserpitium

A new cow parsley relative for us, around 9 species scattered across Europe and Morocco. Typical umbels of white flowers, but with broader leaves than cow parsley. We are trialling L. siler in sunny positions on well draining soils.

As with all umbellifers, the heads of numerous tiny flowers provide a huge resource of nectar and pollen for a wide range of insects from tiny pollen-beetles to large hoverflies. If the flowering stems are not cut back in the winter, the seeds may be taken by finches and other seed-eating birds.
