Urban Planters

Emily has been putting her years of design experience to good use, planning and planting a new display on our nursery. Emily was directly trained by Beth and worked alongside her for many years practicing the philosophy we are so well know for - right plant, right place.

We have now brought this philosophy forward to bring life to urban areas.

Always keen to trial and experiment with different growing mediums, we are testing the limits of plants to help guide our customers when choosing what will be the right plants for them. We have successfully grown in sand and other substrates for local projects (find out more here), which has helped us select a range of low maintenance, drought tolerant plants for such testing growing conditions.

Urban Planters

To build on our plant range suitable for urban schemes, we are now trialing large containers and experimenting with different growing media and irrigation.

Irrigation is particularly challenging in urban areas, so it will be interesting to see how the chosen plants fare with minimal watering.

We'll keep you updated with what we learn over the growing season.

Hi Gail, We have used a compost mix produced from waste from the garden, topped with gravel.
Good to see the progress. Thanks for sharing plant list. Would these plants be happy without water in loamy soil? I’ve inherited some planters which need revitalising in our area so the planting substrate is already there.

Hi Kim, Perhaps you could mulch with gravel to retain any moisture?
Very good to see that the public are at last relating to the potential use of old non functional items in the garden.we utlise every thing possible at Adventure Farm and Nature Reserve in Tobago in the Caribbean Ean
