Interesting red flowered shrubby Acanthus from Ethiopia. Spiny pale green leaves, with white patterning. Will need a good sheltered free draining spot to survive the winter, or grow in a pot. Outside it's likely to flower late in the autumn, if in a pot and grown in a protected environment, then early to mid autumn. If not cut down by the frosts, cut last years growth back hard to encourage vigorous new shoots.

What does hardy in a sheltered position mean?
For this plant, it would prefer a free-draining soil, especially in full sun. Away from cold winds and hard frosts. Alternatively it can be grown in a large container and put somewhere sheltered over winter.
