The Oriental ostrich fern is slightly more compact than M. struthiopteris and, with a longer leaf stem, gives a slightly more open and lighter appearance in a sheltered position in cool moist soil, slowly spreading via runners. Fertile fronds have a drooping habit, green turning to brown.
