Stiff stems, clothed in narrow pointed leaves, make a large clump, suitable for big borders or the wild garden, in sun and a retentive soil. In latest autumn they carry flat-topped clusters of small, tightly packed daisy-like flowers, in brilliant reddish-purple. Plant it with late asters, actaeas, aconitums or surround it with colchicums.
