Thalia dealbata
Powdery alligator-flag
SKU: 0170Perennial marginal with long stalked blue-green foliage and spikes of narrow tubular violet flowers throughout the summer followed by decorative seed heads. Plant in water. With us the crowns of the plant are under 30cm of water and buried in the silt of the pond. This prevents the crowns and roots being frosted.
Please note that the plant has an unusual mechanism for pollination which results in some pollinating insects remaining trapped within the flower, where they can perish. Several important pollinators can perish in this way, so we would encourage you to remove the flowers and enjoy this wonderful foliage plant safe in the knowledge that you are doing no harm to our native insects.
We are no longer propagating this plant, but are leaving this page up for educational purposes.
