Arum creticum

From fat underground tubers glossy spear-shaped leaves emerge early in winter. In spring, sweet-scented flowers appear above and among them, clear yellow, goblet-shaped spathes folding backwards at the tip to reveal long, thin spadices. This treasure is best in sheltered, sunny situations, in well-fed soil. Has survived many years at Hidcote in Gloucestershire and Gt. Dixter, Sussex. Caution toxic if eaten. Potential skin and eye irritant.
