Coaches & Group Bookings
Group and Coach parties are always welcome and we are delighted to have groups coming back and visiting us on a regular basis.
We aim to limit the number of coaches that we take in a day to ensure that all of our visitors get an excellent experience.
In order for us to provide you with the best service, Group Bookings must be booked in advance so we can accommodate your requirements.
Due to our popularity please book as early as possible to ensure your requested date is available.
Group & Coach Facilities
- We have coach parking right by the entrance, and a space will be reserved for your coach.
- We have modern toilets including disabled facilities again by the entrance.
- We have a light and spacious Tearoom serving homemade breakfasts, lunches and afternoon tea as well as a tempting range of homemade cakes including selections for dietary requirement.
Please complete the online booking form (click on the box below) and we will confirm your requested date to visit.
Once confirmed, a £50 deposit is payable. The deposit is fully refundable if your booking is cancelled at least one month before your visit.
February: £4.95pp or £4.50pp for groups 25+ Children £1
March & November: £6.95pp or £6.45pp for groups 25+ Children £1.50
April - October: £8.95pp or £8.45pp for groups 25+ Children £2
December & January Free Admission - some areas of the garden may not be accessible due to maintenance during these months
Prices may be subject to an annual increase and will be confirmed when booking.
For all group bookings, organisers are required to collect entry fees in advance and settle for the entire group to avoid queues.
We're delighted to offer a range of tours to group visitors. Tours are available Monday-Friday. We may be able to accommodate weekend tours in some circumstances.
Introductory Talk in the Gravel Garden
A personalised short talk in the Gravel Garden carried out by a member of the Beth Chatto team. This talk gives essential points of information, a brief overview of the Gardens and how Beth started the project. The talk lasts around 15 mins and costs just £25 for a group of up to 20 people. Please note: If you would like a tour that covers detailed plant and gardens information, please choose from our packages below.
Gravel Garden Tour
A personalised tour carried out by a member of the Beth Chatto team. This tour is an introduction to the history of the garden, a detailed overview of how the world famous gravel garden was developed and why. With a brief look at the contrasting water garden. The tour lasts around 30 mins and costs just £50 for a group of up to 20 people. Please note: If you would like a tour that covers the whole of the garden, please choose from our packages below.
A personalised garden walk with a senior member of the Beth Chatto team. As part of a small group on this special tour, your group will be guided around the Beth Chatto Gardens by a highly knowledgeable member of our team. You will be given an in-depth insight into the philosophy and history of the Beth Chatto Gardens and of Beth Chatto herself. You will be guided through the areas of interest, the planting schemes and the plants in the Gravel Garden, Water Garden, Reservoir Garden, Woodland Garden and the Scree Garden. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and tap into their wealth of gardening knowledge. The tour lasts around 1 hour and costs just £100 for a group of up to 20 people.
Head Gardeners Tour
A personalised garden walk with our Head Gardener. You'll be personally welcomed to the Gardens and invited to enjoy tea and coffee on arrival in our acclaimed Tearoom, or in our outdoor seating area if the weather permits. You will then be joined by our Head Gardener who will take you on a personalised tour of the Beth Chatto Gardens. You will be given an in-depth insight into the philosophy and history of the Beth Chatto Gardens and of Beth Chatto herself. You will be guided through the areas of interest, the planting schemes and the plants in the Gravel Garden, Water Garden, Reservoir Garden, Woodland Garden and the Scree Garden. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions of the Head Gardener and tap into their wealth of gardening knowledge. The tour lasts around 1-1.5 hours (plus 30 minutes for refreshments) - please email for availablilty and costs.
If your group has an interest in a certain area or plant do let us know, tour guides are very willing to adapt the presentation to your interests.

The Gardens are situated just east of the village of Elmstead Market on the A133 which is the Colchester to Clacton road. If travelling on the A12 continue past Colchester, take the A120 to Harwich and then the A133 turn-off for Clacton and Elmstead Market. Follow the signs for Elmstead Market. We are on the left hand side as you enter the village.
Our modern Tearoom is light and airy and overlooks the Gravel Garden and Plant Nursery. Open during the day, they sell a wide range of drinks, light lunches and home-made cakes, including daily specials.
If you wish to book a group lunch for your party please request a menu to book your choices in advance. A deposit is payable. Alternatively your group are welcome to purchase lunches on an individual basis.
We regret that picknicking is not permitted in the gardens but you are welcome to bring a picnic to eat in the grassed car park if you wish.
We have a very well stocked nursery, with plants propagated from the Beth Chatto Gardens.
If you'd like to take plants home with you, please do ensure you make your purchases well before your departure time to avoid queues and delays.
