World renowned Beth Chatto Gardens features in
New BBC TV series
Internationally-acclaimed Beth Chatto Gardens is to feature in the return series of ‘Glorious Gardens from Above’. The first episode in the new BBC One series airs from Monday 10th November and will be on television every day for three weeks at 3.45pm.
Glorious Gardens from Above films from high above tree-top canopies using hot air balloons and remote controlled drones. The series is again presented by Christine Walkden, a regular presenter of BBC gardening shows.
The episode featuring Beth Chatto Gardens will be broadcast on Tuesday 11th November.
In the programme, Christine Walkden is in conversation with Julia Boulton, the Managing Director of Beth Chatto Gardens, talking about her inspirations and her love of the Gardens, which she has known all her life.
Julia is the granddaughter of founder Beth Chatto. A former Chief Operating Officer of Donington Park race track, Julia has been on Beth Chatto’s board of directors since 2006. She joined the business full time in 2013, and was appointed Managing Director in early 2014.
Also taking part in the programme is David Ward, who has worked alongside Beth Chatto for over 30 years. David is involved in the day to day running of the Gardens as Garden and Nursery Director.
Beth Chatto Gardens, based in Elmstead Market near Colchester, was first opened to the public in 1960. Beth Chatto introduced a truly pioneering style and method of planting that to this day focuses on growing plants in the settings most appropriate for their location. For example, its world famous Gravel Garden features plants most suited to drought conditions.
Julia Boulton, Managing Director, said:
“It was an honour to be selected by the BBC to be among the gardens representing Essex in this new TV series. We are delighted that so many people will be able to see our beautiful gardens and hopefully share our love of plants.
“Beth Chatto Gardens is passionate about the pleasure plants can bring to everyone’s lives, no matter how small or large their gardens. We hope this new TV series will encourage visitors to our Gardens to take inspiration from our designs and planting, and perhaps be persuaded to use a wider pallet of plants in their gardens. We have over 2,000 varieties of plants for sale in our nurseries, so there are plenty to choose from!”
Beth Chatto Gardens, Tea Rooms and Nursery are open from 9am to 4pm in the winter, with admission to the Gardens costing only £4.00. To find out more about the Gardens or to order plants for your garden, please visit www.bethchatto.co.uk
