Liatris

Blazing stars are perennials with tuberous roots native to North America. From within grass-like foliage, narrow spikes of fluffy flowerheads emerge, typically pink, opening from the top, downward.

Although rather different from the average 'daisy' in appearance, the principle is the same: small flowers in dense flower-heads (in this case spikes) producing nectar and pollen that are attractive to all sorts of insects from bees to butterflies to ladybirds. And if the heads are left standing after flowering, they will be visited by seed-eating finches and other birds in search of a winter meal.
