Arisarum

Related to Arisaema and Arum, these are smaller and typically growing in woodland conditions, around the Mediterranean. Heart to arrow-shaped leaves, flowers hidden by a hooded, curved spathe. A. probiscideum, the mouse-tail plant is a cute curiosity.

Flies are attracted to the flowers by scent but, as with arisaema, they are not rewarded with nectar for their pollination service. The fruits may be eaten by birds, although their attractiveness may be limited by the fact that the berries do not become brightly coloured when ripe.
